Three hidden coves at the foot of cliffs that drop straight into the sea. They are in Casa Bora’s village, and few visitors know to look for them.
The place
Discover els Penya-segats de Benitachell
Puig Llorenca does not slope gently down to the beach: it stops abruptly and drops into the Mediterranean from above. Halfway along that wall, there is a footpath. At its feet are three coves – el Moraig, els Testos i el Llebeig – reached only on foot or by sea.
This is the landscape Benitachell itself uses as its calling card, and the reason this part of the coast remains undeveloped. Casa Bora is in the same municipality.

Cala del Moraig
The largest and easiest to reach: pebbles, clear water and the cliff wall closing the bay. It has parking, and Cova dels Arcs sits at its entrance.
The only one with road access
Cala dels Testos
A small corner of gravel and turquoise water tucked between rock walls. You go down through the ravine, and the final stretch needs a rope: this is not a beach for carrying a cool box.

Cala del Llebeig
An unspoilt pebble cove, with its old fishermen's huts still standing. No bars, no parasols, nothing. You get there on foot or by sea.

The route
The cliff path
The Ruta dels Penya-segats (SL-CV50) runs from Cala Moraig to Cala Llebeig along a ledge halfway up the cliff. Along the way, caves once used by fishermen and farmers open into the rock: Cova de les Morretes, Cova Domingo l'Abiar and Cova Pepet del Morret. Before descending to Llebeig, you reach the Morro del Bou viewpoint.

The highlight
Cova dels Arcs
At the entrance to Moraig, two large rock arches open a cave to the sea, with a skylight in the ceiling letting the light in. In its deepest corner, a siphon leads to a network of underwater galleries where the Riu Blanc runs, an underground river that releases fresh water beneath the cliff. Diving it is for experienced people; seeing it is not.

You sleep in the same village
Most people who visit Moraig arrive from elsewhere, fight for a parking space and leave in the afternoon. From Casa Bora you can come and go when you like: first thing in the morning, when the cove is empty, or at sunset, when the crowds leave.
And when you return, the resort pool is only three minutes away on foot, which is even more welcome after going down and back up the cliff.
